The year 2023 was a fairly huge one for Marvel and Star Wars shows on Disney+. Marvel brought us Loki season two, What If...?, and Secret Invasion. Star Wars gave us The Mandalorian season three and Ahsoka in live-action, as well as Bad Batch, Visions, and Young Jedi Adventures in animation. Will 2024 live up to that output or will there be less?

A press release from the UK arm of Disney+ states that three Marvel shows and two Star Wars shows are on the way in 2024. The Marvel shows are Echo (already confirmed to debut on January 10), Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and X-Men ‘97. For Star Wars, there’s Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte. That’s it.

Now, the way the press release reads, it may seem as if these are the only shows coming out for each brand in 2024. But does that mean the possibility of any others is already off the table? We don’t think so and reached out to Disney to comment or clarify. (We’ll update this piece if and when we hear). But with Marvel’s offering lining up with 2023 exactly (two live-action, one animation), and the Star Wars output also lining up—at least on the live-action side—it seems like a fairly good bet that these are the shows that are coming and that’s it. At least for now. (io9 confirmed that Star Wars will still have some animation stuff coming out too, such as The Bad Batch.)

The biggest omission here is Andor, which was announced to be returning in August of 2024 back at Star Wars Celebration. However, that was before the writers and actors’ strikes paused production on the series. Now, according to a source close to the production, for those reasons as well as the time needed to release the other two shows, it’s likely to be moved until 2025.

Whatever the case I, for one, am very excited to see two brand-new Star Wars shows, about all new characters we’ve never met before. That hasn’t happened since the first season of The Mandalorian. Echo, Agatha, and X-Men could all be great, but each is a spinoff/continuation. Do you agree? Let us know below.

Update: 12/4/23, 5 p.m. We’ve updated the story with information on upcoming Star Wars projects.
